Rick Brown

Rick Brown is an advocate of sustainable lifestyle choices. Professionally, Rick focuses his attention on renewable energy as the owner of Solshine Energy, a solar electric contracting company located in Roanoke, specializing in designing and installing solar electric systems for home and business - you may have seen the installation Solshine recently completed at the LEAP office on Patterson Avenue! Rick is a long-time co-op owner having met his wife, Christy, at the Concord Food Co-op in Concord, NH. Rick and Christy have been owners at Roanoke Co+op since they moved to SW Virginia in 2009 and live in a 316 square foot solar-powered home in rural Floyd County that they designed and built themselves. 

Rick served on the board of SustainFloyd from 2014 to 2019 and helped coordinate numerous events including Energy Festivals, Tiny Home & Solar Home Tours that served to spread the word about renewable energy and sustainable living. As a member of the Roanoke Co+op Board, Rick will be dedicated to upholding the mission of the co-op and helping to strengthen our local food economy.
